Bali Ultra Fit Retreat

Bali Ultrafit camps are a retreat style fitness camp catering to specific groups and/or fitness levels.

This is not your average boot camp style getaway. Robert is an Endurance junkie who pushes his limits constantly. If you are an Ironman triathlete, marathoner, cyclist/MTB enthusiast, or simply looking to extend your fitness and endurance boundaries, this camp is for you. Robert has some local knowledge and has lived in Indonesia in the past; his style of training incorporates unique cultural experiences combined with some western style comforts. It’s a total experience that offers real world comparisons and sensory overloads.  Please note that part of the financial outlay for this camp will be contributed to the local people in the area.   

Ride or run to a different destination each day, using the unique Balinese cultural sites and events as your guide map. If you are a cyclist, or just a weekend biker, this tour could be just your thing. Come along for the ride each day, or choose alternatives. Point to point riding or join for the full loop. Rides correspond with the fitness levels of the group, so you can choose your own adventure.

Ayung Sari Indah, Bali is the special place where the Shieldsport Ultrafit camp participants rest refuel and recover. 

This is a destination for those seeking an escape, a time away from cities to energize and rebalance, and a base to discover your fitness threshold; pushing the limits mentally, physically and spiritually, surrounded by the traditional delights of Bali.

Ayung Sari Indah is wonderfully situated, comfortable and comforting, friendly and private. Its beauty, its culture, its people and its peace are perfect parallels that run together with your endurance activities.

Ayung Sari Indah is a unique place to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life.
There are 5 bungalows, built in traditional Balinese style, set amongst lush gardens. Whilst each bungalow provides a space for privacy, Ayung Sari Indah is all about sharing.

Ayung Sari Indah has been designed to treat your senses and to enrich your life by offering a retreat where guests can relax. This will be well received and deserved after taking part in the Ultrafit Program; a physically enduring activity each day will guide you to various cultural and physical activities.

The culture of Ayung Sari Indah is steeped in Balinese village tradition. From the bungalows and surrounding gardens, the food, music and art, to the local villagers and staff, you will experience why Bali has long been recognised as a jewel.

The village is truly local Bali – simple houses with dirt floors, temples, a school, all bordered by rice paddies and other agricultural plots, surrounded by ravines, mountains and waterways and sheer green beauty. This is a subsistence-farming society. They are proud to share their way of life with our guests and you will be introduced to a way of life which is welcoming and immediately relaxing.

Balinese are spiritual people and you will notice daily rituals and other colourful ceremonies happening around you. On a daily basis we make offerings and you are welcome to join with the girls crafting and delivering them. Your participation is welcomed in local rituals and ceremonies where appropriate. Please have an open mind and respect local traditions.

Taking part in the rigors of the Shieldsport Ultrafit program will see you earn some western comforts en route to allocated destinations. These western comforts will make you feel at home, yet conjure up feelings that remind you of the far stretched comparisons, between the home where you live and the current world that surrounds you.

It’s well documented that strenuous and enduring experiences can elevate and heighten the senses both emotionally and physically. You will test the theory under the professional guidance of Robert Shield, who has pushed his boundaries in this area, to come up with his unique program. This program is for an experienced athlete, and to take part you must have completed at least a half marathon, half ironman event, or other endurance based training, that incorporates a high work rate for an extended period of time.  

Keeping this in mind, we do take time out for massage and recovery sessions. Yoga is optional and rewards are given after long sessions or high intensity days. We push the boundaries, careful not to step over them.   

You will take bike tours around the surrounding villages, enjoying a couple of hours riding along the quiet village roads surrounded by the rice paddies, mountains and jungle. Take in the villages of Lembean, Langgahan and Bunutin. That not being enough for the day, an evening jog set with a back drop of beautiful mountains and endless greenery, fading into the dark whilst fire flies come out to entertain.   

There’s time to stop along the way to take photos or to buy some fresh mandarins from the farmers. There are a few hills as you head north, but the ride home is a breeze. For the more advanced or adventurous, we make a day of it by cycling all the way to the village of Serahi, (close to Kintamani).

From there we will pick you and the bikes up, and continue on to Lake Batur for a relaxing couple of hours by the Hot Spring Pool, before returning home to Ayung Sari Indah.

One of the special experiences to be enjoyed is a guided climb up the volcano Mt Batur. The aim is to watch the sun rise over Bali from the summit, so we leave Ayung Sari Indah at 3am to drive to the base at Lake Batur. The walk takes around 6 hrs, depending on your level of fitness.

This as a special day trip and, after returning to the lake, it’s time to enjoy lunch including fresh fish from the lake fish farm.   Swim in the hot springs’ pools, take photos, and revel in the achievement of completing the final day of the Shieldsport Ultrafit camp. Arrive back at Ayung Sari Indah late afternoon.
